Description

Text by Joost Glissenaar: This proposal takes the abstraction of water lilies as a starting point to combine and establish the environmental relationships. The canal is widened, the new water area is filled in with islands (Lily Pads). Most of the islands are filled in with eight residential housing typologies and two apartment blocks, a tower and an "abstract lily flower". The Lily Pads filled in with thematic green spaces are spread through the area; the bigger ones are located along the van Harinxmakanaal and the small ones within the building blocks. They have themes like: mountain, forest, sports area, public pool, etc. Lengthwise a main road runs over the outstretched project area and crosses two public spaces and the yacht basin marina with the "abstract lily flower" from where a bridge crosses the van Harinxmakanaal. Secondary roads lead to the housing blocks. On the side of the canal footpaths connect the archipelago of Lily Pads. Agricultural land penetrates the project site at three points.
